Pokémon TCG 30th Celebration: A Worldwide First

Pokémon TCG Turns 30: Inside the 30th Celebration Release

TL;DR

Pokémon TCG turned 30 on 16 September 2026 with 30th Celebration — the franchise's first simultaneous worldwide release, with 150+ all-foil cards, 30 classic reprints, 30 Pikachu variants and a brand-new Futuristic Rare.

A worldwide first for the Pokémon TCG

On 16 September 2026, Pokémon TCG marked its 30th anniversary with the 30th Celebration expansion — the franchise's first-ever simultaneous worldwide release. The set ships with more than 150 cards, including 30 classic reprints spanning the game's history and 30 variant illustrations of Pikachu. Every card in the set is foil, right down to the Basic Energy cards.

What's inside: Futuristic Rare and the chase cards

The headline addition is a brand-new rarity, Futuristic Rare, debuting alongside familiar favourites. Confirmed chase cards include Mew ex, Mewtwo ex, Greninja ex and Umbreon ex. Each Elite Trainer Box pairs nine 30th Celebration packs with a full-art Nidorina promo, 65 sleeves, foil Basic Energy cards, and the usual dice and storage.

Why adults are buying in again

Industry reporting around the set's launch points to a broader pattern: adult collectors are a growing share of the toy and card market this year. We're treating the market-wide growth figures as directional rather than exact — nobody tracks this in real time — but the queues for 30th Celebration stock this week are a fairly visible data point on their own.
